The Surf’s Up Labor Day Invitational returns for its second year, bringing together Elite Youth Hockey Teams from across the East Coast for a weekend built around connection, competition, and community.

Last year’s inaugural event brought incredible energy, meaningful moments, and an outpouring of generosity from teams and families. Together, we honored Mo, strengthened our hockey family, and raised funds for critical research at MSK Kids.  This year, we’re building on that foundation.

 

ABOUT MO &

THE CAMPBELL FAMILY

 

In April 2018, Larry Robbins met Maurice “Mo” Campbell Jr. when selecting the final defenseman for the NJ Avalanche 15U AAA team. Mo immediately stood out - smart, fearless, physical, and loved by teammates from day one.

​

Only weeks later, Mo was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of Stage 4 cancer (DSRCT). Yet despite surgeries, treatments, and unimaginable challenges, Mo lived with extraordinary resilience. His smile lifted every room, his teammates remained his family, and hockey stayed his passion.

​

Mo passed away in December 2022, but his determination, joy, and spirit continue to inspire players, coaches, and families across every rink touched by the Robbins, Avalanche, and Longwood communities.

​

Mo’s family attends the Surf’s Up Invitational each year, making this event a true celebration of their son and the lasting connections he created.

THE MAURICE A. CAMPBELL II INITIATIVE AT MSK KIDS​

 

Larry and Sarahmay Robbins established the Maurice Campbell Initiative at MSK Kids, a multi-year research program committed to advancing treatments and finding cures for DSRCT and other rare pediatric cancers.

​

Funds raised through Surf’s Up directly support this life-changing work at Memorial Sloan Kettering helping accelerate breakthroughs that families desperately need.

​

Fundraising Goal:

• Reach higher than last year - every team, every family, every dollar helps

• Players will once again be encouraged to create personal fundraising pages (ONLY 2016’s did it last year)

• All proceeds donated to MSK Kids in Mo’s honor
